Some months ago I sent a note to an artist I admire a lot. I had no response, but that is not the problem to me because I know this person surely have the inbox full of notes, and no matter how badly this artist is willing to reply: when you get a lot of feedback as this person surely has it's almost imposible to answer to every guy that tries to make contact

Mi intention is not to make a drama

, so I won't say who this artist is, so please don't try to guess and don't ask me. If someone's post a name I will be obliged to hide the comment. I don't want to start a war, just want to share how sad and dissapointed I feel. Sad, not angry, cause I really love the work this person does. Besides, it's not the first time I see this attitude on many artist with lots of pageviews, but it's the first time it touches me directly.
I will try to keep the details in shadows -as I said, I mean no harm to this person and it's not my intention to damage "his/her" reputation-.

In my note I politely asked this person to share some techniques about line art with the community if he/she finds spare time in the future. I did never pestered this person, and as I had no reply, I forgot the matter and continued investigating on my own.
Of course I know there are a lot of work involved behind every piece (and after all I published 2 comic books done all by myself, 100 pages each), and no matter if you are a pro or a begginer, everyone knows that there are no such things as "magical brushes", "magical actions" or "devil pacts" drawing an Ouija in Photoshop

stated this, all I can say is that this person made a public irony about those stupid guys -like me- who asked about some tips. Maybe this artist was not directly speaking about me, but seems there was a lot of "morons" like me asking for a tutorial. When I realized what those words from the artist ment, I felt like an idiot, only for have asked something.
So: Q- Are artist obliged to share? A- of course NOT.

But I think that being polite is a must

.
And if someone is not willing to share (wich is fair), I think it's better a nice silence instead of some journals or deviations that only make us, the people who watch this persons and are interested in sharing and learning, to feel undestimated or even slightly insulted. I saw other artist's journals where you can read "Please don't aske me for tuts, find your own ways as I have found mines" that's a lot better! It's honest, and it's respectful.
So, thanks a lot to very talented guys who are always polite and are not afraid to share things with their fellows artists like

or

among many many others. This makes me love them even more.
When I first come to Deviant I didn't know a fucking thing about Photoshop, and now, due to all those nice people who made tutorials and shared some tips I learnt a lot, and there are a lot more to be learnt.
That's what a community art is to me at least.
